If an equestrian is lucky, they find horses that show them the way. They find horses that greatly develop their career, horses that fuel their passion, and horses that fight for the success of the partnership. I firmly believe these horses show up sporadically throughout every rider’s life, just when they need them. These are the horses that create a rider’s dedication, build their talent, and make them truly fall in love with the sport. These are the horses every rider is eternally thankful for.

As I have just turned 18, I reflect back on the horses of my lifetime thus far. In my proportionally long, but wholly short, riding career, I am fortunate to have ridden and worked with hundreds of horses. While I may not be able to recall every single ride, I can confidently say that I gain something from every horse I sit on, whether that be a new training technique or type of ride, or simply just more experience. I can name several horses that have significantly impacted my riding, but there are three in particular that have individually influenced who I am as a rider and who I am as a person.

To be continued.
